The Harry S. Rintoul Memorial Award was established in 2002 in honour of Manitoba playwright and founding Artistic Director of Theatre Projects Manitoba, Harry S. Rintoul.  The award is given to the best new Manitoba play in the Winnipeg Fringe Festival.  

In order to be eligible for this award:

The play must have been written by a Manitoba resident.

The play must be an original script. Adaptations, stand-up, improvisation, and sketch comedy are not eligible.

It must be a first production. It may have had a public reading/public workshop, but the 2019 Fringe production must be a premiere.

Entries must be submitted by 8:00 a.m. on Monday, July 15th, 2019 (opening week of the Fringe).

The Harry S. Rintoul Memorial Award is a juried competition. The winner will receive $500.00, and a trophy. The award will be presented on the final evening of the Festival.

To submit your play for consideration, all you need to do is send a request by email to with the following information:

Subject line: Request to be considered

Content of email: Title of play, venue, and dates/times of performances.

There is no entry fee. You will receive a reply confirming your entry.
