Call for Applications - Reg Skene Award for Emerging Theatre Artists

The Reg Skene Award will be presented to a promising playwright, actor, and director in a three-year cycle, beginning in 2014 with a playwright.

Professor Reg Skene grew the University of Winnipeg’s theatre department from one course offered in 1965 to a four- year honours program with its own theatre complex and production facilities. Over the years, Reg taught many students who remained in Winnipeg, became established theatre artists, and helped form the core of today’s Winnipeg’s theatre community. His passion and wisdom continues to nurture theatre in Winnipeg.

This Emerging Artist Award reflects Reg Skene's invaluable and ongoing contribution to the theatrical arts in our city.  The Award will be presented to a promising playwright, actor, and director in a three-year cycle, beginning in 2014 with a playwright.

To qualify, Applicants must regard Manitoba as their place of residence, and must work in English or French. Applicants should have a production track record, which may include the following: at least one professional production, at least two Fringe or independent productions, or one (play) professional publication. The applicant will have no more than one play produced or published outside of Manitoba.

Applicants will submit a CV (including production history), reviews (or links to reviews), a writing sample (up to twenty pages), and a one-page outline of an upcoming project. Letters of support will not be accepted.

The Award will be presented on October 31, 2014 at the MAP Masquerade Ball to be held at Le Cercle Moliere, 340 boul. Provencher. The recepient of the award will receive a Winnipeg theatre superpass, courtesy of the theatre community.
