You have the idea, or do you really? How do you structure it? How do you find out what’s really going on in the play you want to write?
On Saturday March 1, 2014, celebrated Canadian playwright Joan MacLeod will conduct a Playwrights’ Seminar on her process on how to get started and develop the structure to illuminate the ideas and characters in a play.
“I get started writing a play through monologues; I use that to get the play going and help me find structure. It helps me write plays.”
Further, how does this beginning process lead to the final draft? Ms. MacLeod will present material for discussion, and field questions on the hardest part of writing a play — finding structure and getting started.
Joan MacLeod is one of Canada’s leading playwrights. She will be in Winnipeg to see the production of The Valley at Prairie Theatre Exchange, opening on February 27th. Joan’s other plays include the Governor General’s Award winning Amigo’s Blue Guitar, The Hope Slide (Chalmers Award), The Shape of a Girl (Jessie Award / Betty Mitchell Award). She was also awarded the Siminovitch Prize for her body of work in 2011.
