Congratulations to Richelle Burchill, winner of the Cora McKenzie Award for first place in the Scirocco Drama Manitoba High School Playwriting Competition.

Richelle Burchill's play It’s Definitely About The Keys was voted best play by the audiences attending the Thursday and Friday performances at the Tom Hendry Warehouse Theatre.

Congratulations to the other playwrights as well:

2nd place: Sarah Luby for Our Name

3rd place: Keira Hasenack for Forsaken Love

Honorable Mentions: Marcus Schneider for A Parable of Pagans and Isabella Fiorentino for Train to Nowhere in Particular

The five plays were chosen by professional theatre artists from all the entries, workshopped and dramaturged, and directed by professional directors with volunteer actors.

Audience turn out for both nights of the competition was strong.  The High School Playwriting Competition is a program of the Manitoba Association of Playwrights devoted to raising awareness of playwriting among teenagers.
