May 29 and 30 at the Tom Hendry Warehouse Theatre - it's the Scirocco Drama Manitoba High School Playwriting Competition!
The 14th Annual Scirocco Drama Manitoba High School Playwriting Competition
Look Out Stuffy Old Pros, a Gang of Talented Teenaged Playwrights Has Arrived!
Exploding onto the stage of the Tom Hendry Warehouse Theatre at 8:00 PM on May 29 and 30, 2014, it’s the Scirocco Drama Manitoba High School Playwriting Competition, featuring five hilarious, touching, exciting, and thought- provoking new one act plays written by teenagers, directed by professionals, and performed by a cast of all ages.
This year’s plays are: A Parable of Pagans by Marcus Schneider of Ecole Selkirk Junior High, It’s Definitely About The Keys by Richelle Burchill of Westgate Mennonite Collegiate, Our Name by Sarah Luby of Vincent Massey Collegiate, Forsaken Love by Keira Hasenack of St. Mary’s Academy, and Train To Nowhere In Particular by Isabella Fiorentino of St. Mary’s Academy.
You’ll See: First loves, new loves, forbidden loves, Ancient Roman soldiers, family secrets, bittersweet memories, hurt feelings, flashbacks to World War 2, marital infedielities, mysterious strangers, and a perfectly modern young woman who just can’t keep track of her keys! And best of all, YOU will decide who wins the competition!
How does it all work? All five plays are performed on both nights. Each play is only 15 – 20 minutes long – so if you don’t like one, just wait a few minutes and a new one will start. At the end of each night, the audience will be asked to vote for their favourite play. Those votes will be counted and the results will be announced (and prizes awarded) on Friday night.
Don’t miss what is sure to be the most outrageously entertaining collection of plays written by high school students this year! The Scirocco Drama Manitoba High School Playwriting Competition is a presentation of the Manitoba Association of Playwrights.
