UNBLOCK: Improv as a Means of Defeating Writers Block

September 23, 2014 | MAP News

The tools of improv are tools not only for performing on a stage but for all creation, improvisation is at the root of all creative art

SEMINARS with Improv Master Steve Sim

Stephen Sim has been performing and teaching master classes in improv theatre internationally for over a decade. He is one half of the world renowned improv duo CRUMBS and is the Artistic Director of the Winnipeg Improv Festival.

What does improv and writing have to do with one another? Well, every time you write you are effectively improvising what you write. In fact, some of the very first modern improv games were created to overcome writer's block. While live improv on stage has the performer collaborating with other players, you, writing all alone, are collaborating with yourself. Stephen has developed some games and tools of his own from the live improv world and has integrated them into the writing world. He has also taken some writing games and taken them to the improv world.

In this masterclass you will learn some of the secrets of the improv world, you will play some live writing collaboration games and you will kill that little voice in your head that tells you not to write. You will see life breathed into your words.
