Welcome to MAP's new website!

This is our new home on the web.

Welcome to the new and improved website for the Manitoba Association of Playwrights.

As well as providing basic information about what MAP is, the services it provides to playwrights and the theatre community, and news about playwriting in Manitoba, the new version of the website offers an extensive listing of Manitoba playwrights (or former Manitoba playwrights) and their plays.  We hope this will be a useful tool in promoting local plays and playwrights.

This past year MAP received a grant to beef up its archives system.  The Jarvis Resource Centre (6th floor of Artspace) houses MAP's archives of Manitoba plays - published plays, plays in draft form, production prompt scripts, plays that have benefited from MAP's play development services, short plays commissioned by MAP, etc.  Carolyn Gray has been the archivist, but with her move to look after the Writer's Guild, MAP archivist duties have been taken over by Rick Caslake.

Part of MAP's strategy for improving the archives was to make our listing of archived plays available online, and to expand it by allowing MAP members to contribute more information about their plays (eg. plot synopsis, number of characters, running time, etc.) and by inviting them to add plays that perhaps haven't found their way into the archives yet.  Over the next few months we hope that the online archives listings will become richer as member playwrights "fill in the blanks" and create a picture of just how active and talented the MB playwriting community is.
