The second annual Masquerade, including the announcement of the Reg Skene Emerging Artist Award will be this Halloween.

This Halloween, fans, supporters and members of Winnipeg’s theatre scene are invited to celebrate the stage at the second annual Masquerade.

This year’s event will take place on October 31, 2014 at Cercle Molière. The Masquerade will feature a theatrical collaboration between playwrights and improvisers, live music, and the announcement of the first annual Reg Skene Emerging Artist Award.

Reg Skene“Reg Skene is an institution in the Winnipeg theatre scene. He taught so many of our artists and is one of the most well-loved members of our community, “said Rory Runnells, Artistic Director of the Manitoba Association of Playwrights. “Reg has been deeply dedicated to the development of emerging talent throughout his career. We wanted to honour his work and legacy.”

Reg Skene grew the University of Winnipeg’s theatre department from one course offered in 1965 to a four- year honours program with its own theatre complex and production facilities. Over the years, Reg taught many students who remained in Winnipeg, became established theatre artists, and helped form the core of today’s Winnipeg’s theatre community.

The Masquerade is a collaboration this year between the Manitoba Association of Playwrights (MAP) and Theatre + Winnipeg, a group made up of Winnipeg’s major theatres aimed at promoting theatre in the city. Proceeds will go toward MAP programming, including the annual High School Playwriting Competition.

The Masquerade will feature a mixture of improv and theatre from Outside Joke and some of Winnipeg’s funniest playwrights, as well as musical performances by Soul Station. The event also includes appetizers and a cash bar.
