Calling All High School Playwrights

We want your plays! The Scirocco Drama Manitoba High School Playwriting Competition is back for its 20th year

The Manitoba Association of Playwrights (MAP) and Scirocco Drama are once again searching for high school students who are writing plays.  How do you enter the Manitoba High School Playwriting Competition?  It's simple!  Write a short play of about 10 to 20 minutes in length, with a minimum of two characters, and send it to MAP.  A panel of theatre professionals will read them and select the winners.

The winning plays will be developed with and presented by the Prairie Theatre Exchange Youth Acting Conservatory. The young playwrights will be working with professional dramaturgs (a playwright’s best friend and help mate!), a professional director, and the PTE Conservatory ensemble of actors. Dramaturgical meetings and workshops, in a safe and supportive environment, will help the playwright to continue work on their play. This is an excellent opportunity for them to experience a professionally guided play development process, to work with young actors-in-training (their peers and future collaborators), and to see their play performed before an audience of friends, family, and invited theatre professionals.
